Knowledge of laws that dictate what can and cannot be publish is essential for any media practitioner. The laws that regulate broadcasting and publishing are not just there to protect media sources, members of the public and vulnerable subjects of stories. They also protect content producers, journalists, editors and press freedom in general. The course will introduce participants to the various laws that regulate media in and around South Africa and shed light on the legal limitations and opportunities when it comes to reporting on various subject matters. This introductory course consists of eight content modules, one test and one assignment. Self-paced, participants have up to eight weeks to complete the course.
