This course provides tools to support NGOs - especially small women’s organisations in Africa - in developing general financial management techniques to ensure the long term survival of their programmes and institutions.

Financial management is often de-prioritised with little effort placed on recruiting qualified personnel to manage finances. This often leads to poor financial planning, unsustainable organisational growth, lack of credibility and ineffective monitoring systems. This guide will enable all managers and staff in appreciating the importance of:

  • Develop financial management systems and procedures;
  • Understand the impact of these systems on the overall performance of your organisation;
  • Enable non financial managers to locate their role in financial management and internal controls;
  • Improve organisational transparency and accountability mechanisms; Build basic strategies for long term financial sustainability.
